No wins as coach – bottom team sacks coach after just six games

The tranquil Sandhausen is experiencing turbulent times in the 2nd Bundesliga. Now the next coach has been fired.

On February 20, 2023, SV Sandhausen introduced Thomas Oral as the coach successor to the suspended Alois Schwartz. Six games later (no win), it’s already over for Oral.

Because the SVS, bottom of the 2nd Bundesliga, announced the separation on Easter Monday. Sandhausen is six points behind the relegation zone and eight behind the first non-relegation zone.

With Oral’s leave of absence, the club is desperately trying to succeed with the last bullet after all.

SVS President Jürgen Machmeier emphasized: “We had hoped that Tomas Oral as the new coach would provide the decisive impetus for a successful relegation battle. After only two points from the past six games, including the indisputable home performances against St. Pauli and Greuther Fürth, we have to recognize that this has unfortunately not been successful. This step is not easy for us, but we don’t see any other way to end this season with class preservation after all.”

There are only seven games left to turn things around. Therefore, it must now work immediately with a coach effect.

Sandhausen’s managing director Volker Piegsa explained, “Tomas Oral has tried to take on the relegation battle with a lot of commitment and dedication. Unfortunately it did not succeed to Ihm to introduce lastingly the turnaround. The release is thus unavoidable in the sense of the club and I wish him all the best for his further sporting future.”

The co-trainers Gerhard Kleppinger and Oscar Corrochano will take over the training on an interim basis. The next game will be at 1. FC Magdeburg on Saturday (April 15, 1 p.m.).

Mikayil Kabaca, sporting director, said of the change: “We believed in the turnaround with Tommy. However, the point yield so far is anything but pleasing. Therefore, we see ourselves forced to release Tomas. “
