Perfect – after Stindl, two more stars leave on loan

Football Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach is facing a major upheaval. Three stars will definitely transfer without a transfer fee.

Borussia Mönchengladbach is playing an average season in the Bundesliga. With seven match days to go, the Gladbach team is in tenth place, and there is probably very little left to go up or down.

It is already clear that Borussia will undergo a major upheaval in the summer. Even though Tony Jantschke and backup goalkeeper Tobias Sippel have each extended their contracts by a year, there will be a lot of coming and going.

In the process, Gladbach will have to let a trio go on a release basis, with a total transfer value of 54.5 million euros. That’s because after Lars Stindl, who wants to return to his homeland and has been linked with Karlsruher SC, striker Marcus Thuram and left-back Ramy Bensebaini (traded to BVB) will also leave Gladbach for free.

Gladbach’s sports director Roland Virkus confirmed this to the club’s own media: “We were in open exchange with both players and knew the current status. It’s a shame that they won’t be extending their expiring contracts, because both have given us a lot in terms of sport over the past four years. And we also understand that our fans are disappointed that the two won’t be staying. But it has always been part of our way in recent years to bring in such talented players, to develop them further – and at some point to let them go, because we can’t keep them forever.”

Virkus continued, “Ideally, we achieve an attractive transfer fee with these transfers. Of course, it’s not good that that’s not the case now. But: both guys are players who can make the difference. Both have helped us in the past few years and are still doing so today. Therefore, they deserve – with all justified disappointment – a stylish farewell.”

Things have been a little rougher in recent days with Marvin Friedrich, who is still tied to Gladbach until June 30, 2026. He has publicly expressed his dissatisfaction, it is quite possible that here, too, the ways separate at the end of the season.

In order to get a new structure in the squad, as Virkus called it, the Gladbach but also imperatively still need transfer income. Here, Florian Neuhaus and Manu Koné are considered sale candidates in order to generate the necessary small change to be able to buy themselves. Jordan Beyer, who has been loaned out to Burnley FC, can also bring in double-digit millions; he has just been promoted to the Premier League with Burnley and the club has the option of buying the right-back.

The money could be invested in Julian Weigl, among others, who is currently only on loan from Benfica Lisbon. In any case, one thing is clear: After a rather disappointing season, Gladbach wants to rebuild the squad. It will be an exciting summer.
