On 24 March 2023, Julian Nagelsmann was given leave of absence as coach of FC Bayern Munich – a surprising decision by the German record champion at the time.

In the weeks that followed, the 35-year-old was repeatedly linked with top international clubs, including two-time Champions League winners Chelsea FC. But an engagement between Nagelsmann and the “Blues” did not materialise because the former Bayern coach turned down the English club.

Most recently, the coach was in talks with another club from the island: Tottenham Hotspur. The Landsberg-born coach was actually considered the ideal solution for the north London club, who are now struggling to make it into the European competition after a turbulent season with three coaches.

But now the turnaround. According to unanimous media reports in England, Nagelsmann will definitely not be the new coach at the 2019 Champions League finalists, as reported on Friday evening by Sky Sport News and BBC, among others.

Bundesliga duo said to be on Spurs’ books

In the minds of club officials, Nagelsmann is said to play no role (anymore) in Spurs’ new sporting start. According to the media reports, the biggest chances for the coaching post are now being given to former Hamburg man Vincent Kompany as well as Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, alongside interim coach Ryan Mason. According to ESPN, Bo Svensson, currently coach at Mainz, is also a candidate. However, a final decision has not yet been made.

Thus, Julian Nagelsmann’s future remains open. Between 2021 and March 2023, he was on the sidelines at FC Bayern Munich in 84 competitive games and achieved a points average of 2.31. The 35-year-old previously coached the two Bundesliga clubs TSG Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig.
