Trio around Jenz back in training – van den Berg missing

Schalke can count on Moritz Jenz again against Eintracht Frankfurt. Another positive aspect is that two other defenders are making progress.

Ahead of the last Bundesliga home game of the season, the personnel situation at FC Schalke 04 is easing. On Tuesday, defenders Moritz Jenz (24), Henning Matriciani (23) and Cedric Brunner (29) were able to participate in team training again. The trio is likely to be available again on Saturday (3.30pm/Sky) against Eintracht Frankfurt.

“Moritz is back, he took part in everything yesterday and is also taking part in everything today,” says Licensed Player boss Gerald Asamoah about returnee Jenz. Recently, the centre-back had problems with his thigh for weeks. A tricky strain caused Jenz to miss the last three games.

Henning Matriciani missed the 0:6 in Munich because of a head injury, Cedric Brunner was substituted at FC Bayern with shoulder problems – but both are making progress. The same goes for Ralf Fährmann, who completed his first team training session after a thigh injury on Monday without any complaints. The goalkeeper was also able to take part in match practice again on Tuesday. However, it is questionable whether he will actually be able to play in goal again against Frankfurt.

But there is not only good news from the training ground, because one of the strongest Schalkers of the past weeks had to sit out: Sepp van den Berg. The 21-year-old centre-back took a knock to the rib in Munich and is missing. A precautionary measure, as Gerald Asamoah explains. “He’s still feeling something, unfortunately. We’ll have to see how it looks tomorrow.”

Should the young Dutchman not make the starting eleven against Frankfurt, he is likely to be replaced by returnee Jenz. There is also much to suggest that Henning Matriciani will replace Jere Uronen (28), who was weak in Munich, at left-back.
