Third division football club SV Waldhof Mannheim suffered their third 3-1 defeat in a row at 1860 Munich on Friday. The pressure on coach Christian Neidhart is growing.

Even before the away game at TSV 1860 München, the mood at SV Waldhof was not particularly good. Coach Christian Neidhart publicly complained about the club’s lack of backing and admitted that he was not taking the fans’ demands for his dismissal so lightly.

And yet, he said, he wanted to fulfil his contract, which runs until 2024. At least that’s what he told MagentaSport before kick-off in Munich. “Yes, very much. I have a contract that goes beyond this season. That’s what it says on paper. I am motivated to go into next season. We will sort things out internally.”

One disappointing half and one decent one later, resulting in a third consecutive 3-1 defeat on aggregate, that had not changed.

“Absolutely not good from us,” Neidhart said of the 1st half 3-0 down. “I then just told the boys at half-time to keep playing football regardless of the result. And that’s what they did for the second half. I am absolutely satisfied with the second half. We played with pressure, didn’t allow anything more.”

His prospects at the second-division-ambitious SV Waldhof Mannheim have certainly not improved as a result. Does the former Rot-Weiss Essen coach fear for his job? “Yes, first of all, the coach is responsible for the sporting side of things. That is completely normal. That’s also what I’m here for….It’s clear that the question is coming. But I don’t know if you’ve ever received an answer from a coach. But I’m afraid I can’t answer it. You’ll have to ask the people in charge.”

When asked further about his future, the 54-year-old said, “Well, purely from a sporting point of view: If you don’t achieve the goals you set for yourself, you always have to expect that in our job. But as I said, I can’t answer that. “
