On the 29th matchday of the Westfalenliga 2, SC Neheim defeated DSC Wanne-Eickel 2:0. This means that Wanne-Eickel is still in a relegation spot with just one matchday to go. Relegation to the Landesliga can only be avoided with help from the referees.
Wanne-Eickel started well in the first half, but it was SC Neheim who took the lead through Pasquale Petrik Neufeld (14th). DSC did not give up and fought until the end, but nothing worked out in front of goal. Shortly before the end, Gianluca Greco (86th) put an end to the game.
DSC coach Davide Basile was crestfallen after the game: “We already lost the game in the first half, we lacked the attitude. We came out of the dressing room well and then put more pressure on ourselves, but in the end the 2:0 for Neheim is simply deserved”.
Even though Wanne-Eickel did not give up, Basile could not get any more in the end: “They played it down cleverly. With a bit of bad luck, we could have scored the third and fourth goals. We had two great chances in the first half, and if we take advantage of them, it will be a completely different game.” The defeat means DSC remain in 14th place in the table and their ability to stay in the league is no longer in their own hands.
Of all teams, SC Neheim can keep DSC’s dreams of staying in the league alive next Monday against YEG Hassel. Even though there is nothing at stake for the Neheim side, SC coach Alexander Bruchhage announced that he definitely wants to win the game: “We will play full-throttle football in Hassel next week. You crown such an outstanding season with a win, that’s our goal. Everyone can count on that. “
