After 1:1 against Horsthausen – Hombrucher SV have second place in their own hands

Hombrucher SV drew 1-1 at home to SpVgg Horshausen in the Landesliga Westfalen 3. Thanks to support from Horst-Emscher, the dream of promotion lives on.

It was a nerve-wracking and heated top match between Hombrucher SV and SpVgg Horsthausen, who are both still fighting for promotion. Goals by Güngör Kaya (35th) on the Horsthausen side and Marvin Schuster (61st) for Hombruch ended the game 1-1.

Alexander Enke, coach of Hombruch, praised his team after the match. “It was certainly a good opponent, but when you saw how we played, it actually has to be a win for us. The chances to score were there and especially in the second half we were overwhelmingly superior. We played good and thoughtful football, so it was a successful afternoon from the ground up,” the 35-year-old said of his boys’ performance.

SV Wanne 11’s slip-up against SV Horst-Emscher in the parallel match allowed Hombruch to move past Wanne and into second place. SV Wanne lost 2-1, opening the door to the championship title for Horsthausen and second place for Hombruch.

“We can now manage second place on our own thanks to Wanne’s defeat and that will clearly be our goal. The performance is the benchmark there,” says Enke about the upcoming last matchday on Whit Monday. Hombruch will play SG Welper, who are currently eleventh in the table. A clear must-win for the Dortmund team.

Their direct rivals from Wanne play at SV Hohenlimburg on the last matchday and can only be promoted if the other candidates for promotion slip up. The league leaders Horsthausen, on the other hand, have everything in their own hands. If the team from Herne wins against Königsborner SV Unna on the last matchday, they can celebrate the championship title and the associated promotion at home.

Second place is therefore the clear goal for Hombruch. With a little help from the shooting team, first place is also still possible for the Dortmund team, but Enke is very reluctant to rely on others, even if the help from Horst-Emscher has opened a new door for Hombruch this match day.
