Derby in Essen – SGS can make class preservation perfect against MSV

This Sunday, SGS will play their last home match of the season in the Women’s Bundesliga. Afterwards, it’s time to celebrate.

In the Women’s Bundesliga, the women of SGS Essen welcome MSV Duisburg on Sunday. Then the SGS can secure its place in the Bundesliga – one point would be enough.

Coach Markus Högner sets the tone: “We won’t let up one bit, we won’t look to the left or right and we’ll give everything we’ve got. On the one hand, we owe it to our fantastic crowd, who have given us such great support in every home game this season, but also to all the other teams in the league. We also want to live up to our own standards to grab the last points.”

The Duisburg women, who are also still fighting to stay in the league, have been given a new impetus by the change of coach. They have been much more stable since then. “Especially defensively. Because even against the top teams they hardly let anything happen,” as Högner says.

MSV’s recent record: a narrow defeat against Wolfsburg and Frankfurt, a very important win in Meppen and a respectable success with the point against Freiburg. The only thing that hurts in the zebra camp is the 4-0 defeat in Cologne. But Högner doesn’t want to dwell on that: “Thomas Gerstner has brought a good structure back into the game. Duisburg are hard to play against and allow much less. They are on the right track to stay in the league. That’s why it will be a difficult game for us.”

Kick-off at the Hafenstraße stadium is at 4pm on Sunday. The big fan party already starts at 1.30 pm.
