Coach “mega proud” – Homberg makes class preservation perfect

VfB Homberg has secured its place in the 39th matchday of the Oberliga Niederrhein with a 1-0 victory in Monheim. A huge burden falls from the shoulders of the Hombergers.

VfB Homberg has done it. The 1:0 victory at 1. FC Monheim means that the club has finally managed to stay in the league. Andres Gerardo Gomez Dimas scored a penalty kick in the 66th minute to make it 1-0 in a tough game with few chances. This means that the Homberg team will continue to play in the Oberliga Niederrhein next year.

All the club’s supporters radiated enormous joy and relief after the success. Especially Stefan Janßen, coach of the Duisburg team, was more than happy after the game. “I am totally overwhelmed because we really had to step on the gas. The boys gave it their all. We did it against a good opponent and I’m mega proud of that,” Janßen said euphorically.

“I’m especially happy for the club and the fans. I have to say a big thank you to the people in charge at VfB Homberg, because they never started to doubt us, rather the opposite,” Janßen adds.

Samuel Owusu Addai, who will leave VfB Homberg for ETB SW Essen in the summer, was also unable to stop beaming. “It’s a great feeling to keep the class and I’m happy for the boys that they can continue to play Oberliga next year,” says Owusu Addai about keeping the class.

According to the Homberg attacker, this victory was deserved despite the weak first half. “In the end it was absolutely deserved. We had difficulties getting into it at the beginning, but towards the end we got stronger and stronger and deserved to bring home the victory,” says the 21-year-old.

With this victory, VfB Homberg’s long and hard fight to stay in the class comes to an end. With 51 points, VfB is four points ahead of the first relegation place and can therefore no longer be caught on the last matchday.

The first relegation spot is occupied by MSV Düsseldorf and behind them is 1. FC Monheim, who can no longer avoid relegation after this defeat.
