Schalke fans take away title – Here’s how BVB and VfL fare

While the 2022/23 Bundesliga season ended in relegation once again for FC Schalke 04, the Königsblauen were at least able to celebrate the championship in another table.

Despite relegation from the Bundesliga and FC Schalke 04’s often mixed to weak performances in the 17 away games of the season, according to the portal “fussballmafia.de”, at least the fans crowned themselves champions of the away games.

Eleven points in 17 away games, with only two wins, a sobering result. But that didn’t stop the Schalke fans from always following their team.

In the away league table, the fans came out on top. With an average of 7,182 fans per away game, the Königsblauen clearly won. Almost every match, more Schalke fans travelled to the stadiums than the quota allowed. The highlight of the season was the away game at TSG Hoffenheim, where around 15,000 Schalke fans filled the stadium. Also not irrelevant for this statistic, the Schalkers had to travel an average of 324 km to their away games.

Behind the Schalkers, last season’s second promoted team makes itself comfortable. With an average of 6,488 fans at away matches, the supporters of SV Werder Bremen take the “vice championship”. In the process, Bremen also set this year’s away record, with 25,000 Bremen fans travelling to the away game at Hertha BSC. An impressive statistic, also considering that the Bremen team travelled an average of 429 km per game, 100 km more than the Schalkers.

Borussia Dortmund with the third most away journeys – VfL ninth

The fans of last year’s champions in this table, Borussia Dortmund, came in bronze. The German runners-up were accompanied by an average of 5,912 fans, with an average distance of 304 km.

They are followed by the fans of FC Bayern (average 5,832 fans), Eintracht Frankfurt (average 5,318), 1. FC Köln (average 5,135), Borussia Mönchengladbach (average 4,724) and VfB Stuttgart (average 4,462).

The fans of VfL Bochum can at least be happy about a place in the top 10. With an average of 3,731 fans, the Bochum fans landed in 9th place.

On the relegation places of the away supporters’ table are FC Augsburg (average 1,339), VfL Wolfsburg (average 900) and TSG Hoffenheim (average 897).
