It was his experience in the Premier League that tipped the scales: Mauricio Pochettino will take over as Chelsea FC coach on 1 July, succeeding club legend Frank Lampard.

After an unsuccessful season, Chelsea FC will again be chasing titles with a prominent coach next season.

Mauricio Pochettino has signed a two-year contract at Stamford Bridge. Bayern Munich’s former coach Julian Nagelsmann had previously also been considered a candidate. Chelsea FC failed to achieve all their sporting goals in the season just ended.

Many fans blamed this on the takeover by a US-American consortium and the parting of ways with coach Thomas Tuchel shortly afterwards. Tuchel was succeeded by Graham Potter, who in turn was replaced by club legend Frank Lampard in the second half of the season.

Nevertheless, Chelsea disappointed its fans and finished the season in twelfth place in the table without qualifying for a European competition.

The 51-year-old Pochettino most recently coached newly-crowned French champions Paris Saint-Germain until last summer. In the Premier League, the Argentine was previously under contract with Southampton FC and Tottenham Hotspur.
