Borussia Mönchengladbach has found a successor for Daniel Farke. Gerardo Seoane becomes head coach at the Foals.

Swiss Gerardo Seoane will be the new coach of Bundesliga football club Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 44-year-old will sign a contract with the five-time German champions until 2026. Seoane succeeds Daniel Farke, who was dismissed after only one season. In addition, Nils Schmadtke will take over the position of sports director licensing at the Foals.

Seoane worked for Bayer Leverkusen until October. He won the Swiss championship three times in a row (2019 to 2021) with BSC Young Boys. Even then, he was in talks with Borussia, who then opted for Adi Hütter. Schmadtke, 34, most recently worked as head of scouting at VfL Wolfsburg.

“Gerardo Seoane has worked successfully in various posts over the past few years. He is a young, yet already experienced coach who fits our football approach,” said managing director Roland Virkus.

Alongside Schmadtke, Philipp Schützendorf (41), previously head of analysis at Borussia, moves up to head of development with immediate effect. Talent development as well as video and data analysis are located there.

“With these personnel decisions, we are broadening our position in the sporting management,” Virkus explained. Schmadtke, as organisational head of the licensing area, completes the sporting management team alongside Steffen Korell (director of scouting and squad planning) and him.
