Excitement at the weekend – the deciding matches at a glance

Decisive matches in the Essen district. Two teams have been promoted to the Bezirksliga. Due to a withdrawal of the champions, however, there will be no vice-relegation.

At the end of the 2022/23 season, there are still a number of deciding matches to be played in the Lower Rhine Football Association (FVN). This is also the case in the Essen football district. The renunciation of a Kreisliga A champion brought movement into the relegation for promotion to the Bezirksliga.

On Sunday, SuS Haarzopf II celebrated their championship in the district league. The right to promotion will not be exercised, however, as the first team also won its own division and will play in the Bezirksliga next season. This has consequences for the relegation.

The Essen football district is entitled to three promotion places for the Bezirksliga: the two champions of Groups 1 and 2 as well as a relegation between the runners-up. The second-placed TGD Essen-West escapes this due to the withdrawal of SuS Haarzopf II and is promoted directly.

Kreisliga A: Double championship for SuS Haarzopf

So two promoted teams have already been decided. Who will complete the trio will be decided next weekend. Instead of a vice-champion relegation, there will be a decisive league duel between Türkiyemspor Essen and RuWa Dellwig from Group 1.

The two teams are tied for second and third place behind SuS Haarzopf II. The rules of the Essen football district stipulate that in such a case there will be a deciding match. This will take place on Sunday, 11 June, at 3 p.m. on the DJK Sportfreunde Katernberg pitch.

On the same day, there will be another deciding match in addition to the promotion match to the district league in the Essen district. TC Freisenbruch and NK Croatia Essen will fight in a direct duel to stay in the Kreisliga A (Sunday, 11 June, 11 am). Meanwhile, Fortuna Bredeney celebrated their promotion to the same league on Wednesday with a 5:4 penalty shootout win over DJK Blau-Weiß Mintard II.
