The Spielvereinigung Schonnebeck has announced two more personnel decisions. One striker is staying after all. The longest-serving player is leaving.

At the end of April, Forecasting reported that Calvin Küper will move from Spielvereinigung Schonnebeck to VfB Speldorf for the 2022/2023 season. The contracts had already been signed. But now there was a reversal. Küper will stay in Schonnebeck – RS reported. A decision that was made due to his personal prerequisites at the time, as the Schonnebeck team now officially explains.

“We are very happy that we have now succeeded in retaining our best scorer. The conditions for ‘Cally’ changed completely at the time of his acceptance in Speldorf. He has been accepted at another university so that, firstly, the travelling times are much shorter and, secondly, the attendance days there no longer collide with our training times. This means that he can continue to take part in every training session with us, which was not at all foreseeable before. The decisive factor, however, is that he is also threatened with the loss of his job, which he has to use to finance his studies. We have also found a solution for this and can offer him assistance. I would like to thank one of our partners very much for this,” explains Christian Leben, sporting director of the Essener Oberliga club from Schonnebeck.

“In addition, we would like to thank VfB Speldorf – in particular in the person of Patrick Dertwinkel – very much for the cooperative behaviour and the amicable solution reached by both clubs. Given the understandable initial disappointment, this is absolutely not a matter of course and should therefore be expressly praised,” Leben continues.

In addition to the extension of Küper, Spielvereinigung Schonnebeck must also announce the termination of the contract with the longest-serving player, Tarkan Yerek, whose contract originally ran until 30 June 2024.

“As with ‘Cally’, the conditions have completely changed for ‘Takko’ at the time of his signing for a contract extension. Late shifts no longer allow sufficient training attendance, so it was with a heavy heart that we granted his wish to cancel the extension. Tarkan is our longest-serving player and has not only been convincing in sporting terms over the years, but has also won many sympathies off the pitch. It’s a great pity that we’re going our separate ways, but for him, too, his personal situation takes precedence over football,” explains Leben.
