Joseph Boyamba moves to the 2nd Bundesliga

There has been much discussion about the future of Joseph Boyamba. Now the ex-Wattenscheider has found a new club.

Joseph Boyamba, who spent last season with TSV 1860 München – 33 Drittliga games (six goals, four assists) – was on the list of several clubs. Recently, there was also speculation about the 26-year-old attacker returning to SV Waldhof Mannheim. But nothing came of it.

But: The Troisdorf native will at least stay in the southwest of Germany. SV Elversberg, third division champions and promoted to the second division, have secured Boyamba’s services. Boyamba signed a contract with the Saarlanders until 30 June 2025.

“Joseph combines his playing quality with a high scoring threat. His speed and flexibility in the offensive will enrich our team,” said SVE sports director Ole Book. Boyamba is the third Elversberg addition for the 2023/2024 series after Dominik Martinovic (SV Waldhof Mannheim) and Paul Stock (TSV Steinbach).

Boyamba adds: “I simply like the style of play that SV Elversberg has embodied. You could tell last season that there is an intact, good team at work here. I’m looking forward to my time at Elversberg and will give everything for the team and the club.”

Boyamba has already played at Schalke, Dortmund and Wattenscheid

Boyamba trained with MSV Duisburg and FC Schalke 04 after his early youth stints with Sportfreunde Troisdorf and FC Hennef. After becoming German A-Junior champion with Schalke in 2015, he also took his first step into the men’s game there.

The offensive player played for Schalke’s reserve team in the regional league as well as for BSV Rehden, SG Wattenscheid and Borussia Dortmund’s U23 team, which he captained in the meantime.

With the experience of 140 Regionalliga games in five years (41 goals, 26 assists), Boyamba made his next career move in the summer of 2020, joining SV Waldhof Mannheim in the 3rd division. For Mannheim, where he was used in almost every attacking position, Boyamba played 68 Drittliga games in two years, scoring 17 goals and setting up six assists. No wonder that SV Waldhof would have liked to bring the offensive player back. Boyamba brings a total of 101 third league appearances (23 goals, ten assists) with him to Elversberg.
