After KFC exit: Kevin Weggen’s new club confirmed

Shortly after his contract with KFC Uerdingen was terminated, Kevin Weggen’s new club has been decided. A team promoted to the Oberliga can be happy about a coup.

After his contract termination at KFC Uerdingen, Kevin Weggen had already hinted at it. “I’m looking for something close by. I already think that I will continue to play in the Oberliga Niederrhein,” the 29-year-old midfielder told RS a few days ago.

And so it comes to pass: Weggen will wear the jersey of promoted FC Büderich after the summer break. The club made the announcement on Wednesday evening. With this signing, the Meerbusch club, who are about to enter the first fifth-division season in their history, can look forward to a transfer coup.

Weggen brings a wealth of experience to the FCB. He has already made 200 appearances in the Oberliga, scoring 33 goals and setting up 38 others. He also played 115 times in the fourth division (ten goals, ten assists) – 85 of them in the West Division.

Before Weggen spent last season in Uerdingen, he played for FC Wegberg-Beeck, SV Straelen, VfB Lübeck, FC Schönberg, MSV Duisburg II and Wuppertaler SV. The midfielder was trained at Rot-Weiss Essen. At KFC, Weggen was most recently a regular player and deputy captain, but experienced an unhappy round with the Krefelders. Since the new coach Marcus John no longer planned to work with him, they agreed to part ways.

The insurance salesman works and lives on the Lower Rhine. That probably played into the Büderichers’ hands when they made their request. Clubs such as the ambitious Westfalen-Oberligist TuS Bövinghausen are said to have shown interest, but the distance was too great for Weggen. So he is now continuing his career with FC Büderich.
