SC Preußen Münster is still looking for players for the coming season. One player who has been linked with a transfer is determined to stay.
Thorben Deters was able to contribute three goals in 17 matches to SC Preußen Münster’s promotion in 2022/2023. It was not enough for more for the 27-year-old, as he was out injured for weeks due to a torn inner ligament.
Deters has been playing at Hammer Straße for two years – 53 games, 20 goals, 10 assists. His home club is SV Meppen. From 2005 to 2019, the offensive man played for the traditional club from Emsland.
Since Deters’ chances of getting much playing time in the coming season in Münster might not be that high, the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” recently brought Deters back into the conversation at SV Meppen and wrote that he could return to the third-division relegated club.
In the Bild newspaper, however, Deters vetoed the idea and stressed: “Yes, I have heard about it. But it’s not an issue for me at the moment. On the contrary. I can hardly wait for things to start again for us on Sunday. I’m not finished with Prussia yet!”
For me, it’s a dream draw. Every ambitious sportsman wants to compete with the best at some point. The Bavarians are undoubtedly that.
Thorben Deters
Deters wants to return to full attack with the Eagles – just like in his first season, when he scored 16 goals in 34 competitive games. Deters told Bild: “After a mixed season last year with many injuries, I now feel fully fit again. And I definitely want to build on the performances from my first year in Münster.”
Deters is not nervous about the fact that Preußen have only brought in Daniel Kyerewaa (Schalke II) and Luca Bazzoli (Stuttgart II). He believes that the Münster team is well positioned for the 3rd Division. Deters says: “We already have a decent squad, and we’re not starting from scratch. In addition, our sports director Peter Niemeyer will certainly bring in one or two more reinforcements. We just have to be patient.”
And there was something else? Münster will meet Bayern in the first round of the DFB Cup. Deters: “For me, a dream draw. Every ambitious sportsman wants to compete with the best at some point. Bayern are undoubtedly that.” Another reason to stay in Münster for at least another year.
