“In the end, of course, we want to be high up – that’s our goal”.

Regionalligist Rot-Weiß Oberhausen starts the new season with an away match at SC Wiedenbrück. Matona-Glody Ngyombo is confident.

Dress rehearsal a success! On Tuesday evening, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen won 5-0 against SV Sonsbeck in the last test match before the start of the season in the Regionalliga West. In the ninth minute, midfielder Matona-Glody Ngyombo gave his team a 1-0 lead. It was a successful last test match appearance.

Things get really serious on Saturday (July 29, 2 p.m.). That’s when the regional league season begins for RWO with an away game at SC Wiedenbrück. Ngyombo is confident ahead of the start. “I’m going into the first game with a good feeling. The preparation went very well and we pulled through the units super. We are definitely ready for the game in Wiedenbrück,” the 25-year-old stressed to Forecasting.

For Ngyombo it will be his second season in the jersey of the Kleeblätter. Last season, he played 33 competitive games (4 goals, 3 assists) for RWO and was in the starting eleven 24 times. Oberhausen’s number eight also has his sights set on his second year: “The first season was fine for me personally. I had a bit of a hard time at the beginning, but then I was able to catch on relatively quickly and deliver my performances. For the new season, I’ve definitely set myself the goal of making more of an impact on offense. That’s my own ambition.”

A lot is new at Lindnerstrasse this summer. With Moritz Stoppelkamp, Oguzhan Kefkir and Marius Kleinsorge, the regional league club has strengthened itself well in the offense – and with Jörn Nowak came a new coach. However, Anton Heinz (17 goals in the season), an exceptional player, has also left the club.

We have to look from matchday to matchday and continuously get our points. In the end, of course, we want to be high up – that’s our goal. But it’s important that we focus on our performances. Then we’ll see what we can achieve.

The 25-year-old Ngyombo has a good impression of the squad: “With the guys we have definitely added quality. You can see that in the training sessions and test matches. They have a lot of playfulness and it’s fun to work with the new players. I also have nothing but positive things to say about the coach. He tries to teach us a lot. The coach is highly motivated – and so are we, of course.”

A very tight top flight is expected in the Regionalliga West in 2023/24. Alemannia Aachen, Wuppertaler SV, SV Rödinghausen and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen are among the favorites. The Siegen native says about a possible promotion goal: “Every athlete plays to win, of course. We have to look from match day to match day and continuously pick up our points. In the end, of course, we want to be high up – that’s our goal. But it’s important that we focus on our performance. Then we’ll see what we can achieve. “
