Coach after false start: “We have a mental problem”.

The Oberliga relegated FSV Duisburg is having trouble holding its own in the Landesliga. Coach Julien Schneider expresses himself with clear words.

The misery at the start of the season of FSV Duisburg continues. After the 1:2 opening defeat against Blau-Weiß Mintard, the team remained without points in its second game in the Landesliga. At Sportfreunde Lowick, coach Julien Schneider’s team was beaten 1:4 (1:1).

“We played a very good first half, were the superior team,” explained Schneider. “Unfortunately, an early goal against us brought us back to the fate that has been with us lately.” Nevertheless, the team fought and managed to equalize. “We even had chances to take the lead. But in the second half we lost the thread,” said the coach. “It’s obvious that we have a mental problem.”

This can be traced back to one main cause: “We have a lot of players who joined late in the preparation and some newcomers,” the coach explains. “The automatisms are not there yet, as we would like them to be.”

The upcoming opponent Spvgg. Sterkrade-Nord (August 12, 4 p.m.) has also experienced a false start and has landed in the cellar of the Landesliga table. Thus, both teams are already under pressure, as they certainly do not want to be without points even after the third game.

In the midst of this situation, Schneider emphasizes, “In our situation, we definitely have to deal with ourselves first. We have our biggest problems to deal with internally at the moment, especially on a mental level. Because before we deal with the opponent, we have to make sure we’re in tune with ourselves. When that foundation is in place, undesirable results can be avoided.”

The hope for a sense of achievement in the near future remains: “We are determined to make a start on Saturday,” Schneider announces combatively. His plan: “We will work hard and support each other to turn things around. “
