Bremen out – Dortmund and Leverkusen in commanding positions

A big surprise in the DFB Cup! Werder Bremen became the first Bundesliga team to be eliminated from the DFB Cup.

Werder Bremen lost 2:3 (1:0) at third division side Viktoria Köln on Saturday after Amos Pieper was shown the red card for an emergency foul in the 11th minute.

Marvin Ducksch (43rd) and Niclas Füllkrug (77th) scored for Werder after an extremely flattering penalty kick. David Philipp (72./79.) was successful twice for Cologne. With the last action, Donny Bogicevic (90.+4) ensured the victory of the underdog and the first cup surprise.

Borussia Dortmund easily won its first competitive match this season. In the first round of the DFB Cup, the runners-up won 6:1 (3:1) at TSV Schott Mainz from the Southwest Regional Football League. First division Bayer Leverkusen and second division FC St. Pauli and Holstein Kiel are also in the second round.

Leverkusen’s 9:0 (3:0) at Teutonia Ottensen was the highest victory on Saturday afternoon. St. Pauli won 5:0 (1:0) at Atlas Delmenhorst from the Oberliga Niedersachsen, Kiel won 2:0 (0:0) at FC Gütersloh (Regionalliga West).
