Uzun replaces Schalke icon as youngest DFB Cup triple scorer

17-year-old Can Uzun, striker of 1. FC Nürnberg, made his mark in DFB Cup history on Saturday.

The top talent scored three goals in second-division side 1 FC Nuremberg’s 9-1 (6-0) win at fifth-division side FC Oberneuland, making him the youngest three-goal scorer in the cup since the Bundesliga was introduced in 1963, according to data service provider Opta.

At 17 years and 274 days, the Nuremberg player replaces former Schalke player Olaf Thon, who was 18 years and one day old in 1984 when he scored three times in the 6:6 after extra time in the cup semi-final against Bayern. The Munich side won the replay that was due at the time 3:2.

“It felt good. We played a good game. Of course it was a completely different level than in the league,” said Uzun, who was voted player of the match. “We are happy about the win and I am happy about my goals. Now we have to move on.”

Uzun had already scored two goals for FCN last weekend in the 2:2 in the 2nd Bundesliga against Hannover 96.
