SV Rödinghausen started the season with six points out of a possible nine. The SVR scored four goals in the process. Simon Engelmann was not yet among the goal scorers.
SV Rödinghausen is undoubtedly one of the top teams in the Regionalliga West. Coach Carsten Rump’s team showed just how strong they are on the first three match days. Two of the three games were won.
On Saturday (19 August, 2 p.m.), they travel to Velbert for the top match against Wuppertaler SV, who have won all three of their matches so far. “We are really looking forward to this game. There will definitely be a cool atmosphere in Velbert,” says Alexander Müller, Rödinghausen’s sports director. “Two teams are meeting who know each other well. There will be no surprises there. I expect a very close game and hope that we will take something countable with us.”
After finishing third and second in the last two seasons, WSV finally want to be promoted and make no secret of that. Müller is not at all surprised by this. “They have a very good and experienced squad. You could already see the quality on the first match days. These last-minute victories underline a great mentality that the Wuppertalers have.”
Rödinghausen, however, do not need to hide from WSV. They too have a good squad, which of course includes Simon Engelmann, among others. However, the striker, who returned to SVR from Rot-Weiss Essen in the summer of 2023, is still waiting for his first goal of the season after three league games and one Westfalenpokal appearance.
“The goal will come. We’re not worried about that at all with Simon,” Müller emphasised. “He’s doing well so far and is working for the team. Recently, for example, Thilo Töpken was able to put himself in the limelight with three goals. We will not measure Simon Engelmann only by goals. He knows that too.”
The summer transfer window is still open for a fortnight. In Rödinghausen, however, nothing more is planned in terms of additions or departures. “We are well positioned and very happy with our squad.” Kevin Hoffmeier, who ruptured his cruciate ligament, is currently the only player not available to coach Carsten Rump.
