“We make it brutally difficult for the opponents”

Six points from three games: FC Wegberg-Beeck have started the season very well. The promoted team seems to be well prepared for the Regionalliga series.

1:0 against Fortuna Düsseldorf II, 0:1 at Fortuna Köln and 2:1 against Rot Weiss Ahlen: These are the results of FC Wegberg-Beeck so far in the 2023/2024 Regionalliga West season. Six points from three games – a strong record for the promoted team.

The coach thinks so too. Forecasting spoke to Essen-born Mark Zeh (39).

Mark Zeh about…

… the start of the season: “Of course we were hoping for something for the first few days of the season. But the fact that it worked out so well is of course all the nicer. We couldn’t have expected that. But we worked hard for it all and then deserved it.”

… the reasons for the good run: “We are not a club that can make big leaps on the transfer market. We can only be successful as a community. And that’s what we are: we are a unit, we were promoted together and now we want to prove that we can master this league. I don’t really need to emphasise that the regional league is a completely different and much stronger class than the Mittelrheinliga. But we’re doing very well at the moment and making it brutally difficult for our opponents. I hope it stays that way. But of course there are also things we want to improve. For example, we have to make better use of the switching moments to create scoring chances and then be effective at the best of times.”

… the next opponents, 1. FC Bocholt: “I’ve had a look at Bocholt and have to say that they have a very good squad. But we’re on a bit of a run at the moment and are travelling to Bocholt with a lot of self-confidence. We’re already expecting something at the Hünting.”

… the Regionalliga West 2023/2024: “It’s a very balanced league – both at the top and the bottom. Of course, for me as an Essener, I miss RWE in the league. That was always a highlight game. On the other hand, I’m happy that Rot-Weiss is now a third-division team. But there are also some attractive opponents in Aachen, Wuppertal and Oberhausen. We enjoy this league and, of course, want to stay in it in the end. “
