Wittek reports back and warns against arrogance: “Would be megalomaniac”.

Maximilian Wittek has returned to VfL Bochum after his injury. He talks about the start of the season and his first days in the Ruhr area.

Maximilian Wittek’s home debut for VfL Bochum ended prematurely. In the match against Borussia Dortmund (1:1) last Saturday, the 28-year-old left winger had to be substituted with an injury shortly after the break.

On Tuesday, Wittek reported back to training – and gave the all-clear. “I still feel it a bit, but luckily it’s not a structural injury,” he said about the blow he had received on his left thigh.

In addition, the newcomer from Vitesse Arnhem spoke about…

… Bochum’s start to the season with the 0:5 against Stuttgart and 1:1 against BVB: “I think the first matchday was anything but sparkling for us. We’ve talked about it a lot and fortunately we’ve been able to put it behind us. That was nothing from us. We showed a good game against Dortmund. In retrospect, it’s a bit of a shame, because we might have had more chances. But that’s the way we have to go on. Then we will get our points.”

… his first home game for Bochum: “The atmosphere definitely does something to you. I’ve played in Bochum a few times in second division times, so I had a rough impression of the atmosphere. But playing a derby here in the Bundesliga is something else again. With the full stadium behind us, it’s a witch’s cauldron. That pushes us as a team extremely hard. Now we want to perform as well away as we do at home. “

.. his Bundesliga debut at the age of 28: “I wouldn’t call myself a late starter. I’m in my tenth professional season and have already experienced a lot, gained international experience and played quite a few games in the Dutch league. Now was simply the perfect moment for a move to the Bundesliga.”

… his early days in Bochum: “The team helped me and made it easy for me to find my way around. I have already crossed paths with some of the boys. I played with Philipp Hofmann at Greuther Fürth, and most recently with Matus Bero in Arnhem. And I’ve faced players like Felix Passlack, Anthony Losilla and Manuel Riemann on a number of occasions.

… VfL’s goals for the season: The season is still very, very young. It would be wrong to talk about rankings now. We have to look from game to game. Staying in the league is the most important thing. Anything else would be megalomaniacal. We’ll see what comes out in the end. with gp
