Preußen Münster, Verl and Bielefeld in the round of 16

Three third division teams want to reach the DFB Cup via the Westfalenpokal. All of them were in action on Wednesday.

They all have one goal in common. The 64 participants in the Westphalia Cup want to get into the DFB Cup. On Wednesday, the three third division teams were challenged in the 2nd round in the current competition.

Arminia Bielefeld had to play against Victoria Clarholz. And coach Michel Kniat’s team got off to a perfect start with a 2:1 victory. The score was 1:0 after just ten minutes.

As against Viktoria Köln, the goal scorer was Noah Joel Sarenren Bazee, whom the Arminen were able to sign from Bundesliga side FC Augsburg just before the end of the transfer period. However, the hosts did not give up and just before the break Oliver Cylkowski made it 1-1. In the second half, former Schalke player Nassim Boujellab quickly restored a calm pulse in Bielefeld, scoring after 50 minutes to make it 2-1.

However, because Clarholz continued to fight back, the game remained exciting until stoppage time. But the 2:2 was not to be, and Arminia were through to the last 16.

Just like SC Preußen Münster, who had to play in the derby against DJK Borussia Münster. SCP coach Sascha Hildmann brought in his two latest additions, Benjamin Böckle and Ogechika Heil, for the 5-0 win. In addition, Darius Ghindoevan, Simon Scherder and Jano ter Horst came into the starting eleven compared to the last championship match against Waldhof Mannheim.

In front of 3600 spectators, the favourites had a hard time at first. Not much happened in the first 30 minutes, but after 36 minutes, Gerrit Wegkamp gave the Preußen fans a 1:0 after a corner. Shortly before the break, Andre Wooten decided the match early with his 2:0. After the changeover, Wegkamp, Wooten and Jano ter Horst increased the score to 5:0.

The third team in the third division was SC Verl, who had the difficult task of playing against ambitious first division team TuS Bövinghausen. Bövinghausen is going on the offensive with the desire to be promoted to the Regionalliga. So SC Verl was warned. And it took the task seriously. The reward: after just twelve minutes it was 2-0 after goals from Maximilian Wolfram and Lars Lokotsch – Verl managed the result until the end.
