Mainz 05 says goodbye to the Südtribüne at Bruchweg. The guest was MSV Duisburg, who lost to Mainz from the spot.

MSV Duisburg also had a test match scheduled during the match-free week. And the third-division team was by no means the best-known visitor to FSV Mainz 05.

Not only MSV, but also former Mainz and current Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp travelled to the Rhineland to bid farewell to the old south stand at the Bruchwegstadion. In the end, he was able to see a 2:0 (1:0) victory for Mainz in front of around 4000 spectators in his old living room.

The two goals were scored by former Schalke loanee Tom Krauß, who converted a penalty in both halves (5./68.). MSV Duisburg fielded two different teams during the match, with Mainz starting with several Bundesliga players.

MSV played defensively in a five-man backline and conceded the first penalty early on. Nevertheless, the Zebras played a good game and also showed some offensive potential. Tim Köther hit the crossbar with a free kick (26th), Philipp König (34th) failed to hit Mainz keeper Daniel Batz.

At half-time, MSV made a lively change and switched to a four-man defence. And in the second 45 minutes, the Duisburgers showed a courageous and committed performance, but despite chances from Baran Mogultay (50th), Benjamin Girth (60th) and Hamza Anhari (78th), they were not rewarded with a goal. Unlike Krauß, who scored the final goal from the spot after a foul by Rolf Feltscher.
