The 1st round of the Bottrop/Oberhausen district cup is on the agenda these days. On Tuesday evening, one of the favourites was knocked out of the competition.
In the 1st round of the Kreispokal Bottrop/Oberhausen, Adler Osterfeld made a start already at the beginning of September and punched their ticket for the 2nd round with a 3:0 victory at Grün-Weiß Holten. VfR Polonia-Ebel followed suit – with a 6:5 win on penalties against Hobby BOT I MSG Mengede.
On Tuesday evening (12 September), three more duels were on the agenda. And it caught one of the favourites. SC 1920 Oberhausen, the club of cult coach and current president Thorsten Möllmann, was knocked out of the competition.
In the Bezirksliga duel, Spielclub 1920 failed at Spielvereinigung Sterkrade 06/07. In front of 150 spectators, Jayson Tylor Romagnoli (48th) had put the guests in the lead. Sverre Müller (84th) and Damian Vergaara Schlootz (100th) turned the match in favour of Sterkrade.
SV Rhenania Bottrop also progressed. The duel of the district league team against the A-league team Blau-Weiß Fuhlenbrock was stopped when the score was 4:0 for Rhenania. The reason: Flavio Dietz, a player of SV Rhenania, was injured so badly that the ambulance had to come. Forecasting also wishes him a speedy recovery. Get well soon!
On Wednesday, Schwarz-Weiß Alstaden, led by player-coach Raphael Steinmetz, will enter the competition as a hot contender for the title. They will play against B-league team Dostlukspor Bottrop. “That won’t be fun. We play on ashes and Dostlukspor is a really good district league team. But, of course, we want to progress in the end. After all, that’s what the cup is all about,” Steinmetz said before the game in Bottrop.
On Wednesday, 13 September, there will also be a district derby. Glück Auf Sterkrade will receive the Landesliga team Spielvereinigung Sterkrade-Nord. “Things are not going well for us in the league. I hope that the boys will now get new self-confidence through the cup. But I warn: it won’t be easy,” says Nord coach Sven Schützek before the game. He also knows that Glück Auf are top of the table in Kreisliga B.
