At 25 – promotion hero must end career

Bitter news for SpVgg Erkenschwick: Jan Binias will not return after an injury and will end his career.

On the way to SpVgg Erkenschwick’s promotion, Jan Binias was an important factor. The midfielder was almost always in the starting eleven in the pre-season, occasionally wore the captain’s armband and scored six goals.

In the hot phase of the season, however, Binias injured his knee – with serious consequences. Because the 25-year-old will not return and instead end his career. “The resulting cartilage damage is so severe that Bini now has to stop. To do so, he wants to fully concentrate on his increasingly demanding professional life,” the Erkenschwickers wrote on Instagram on Thursday evening.

And further: “We thank you, dear Jan, for your relentless commitment to our colours. You have enriched our club and our team. We hope to welcome you back as a spectator at the Stimberg soon! We will miss you!”

The all-rounder had spent the past two seasons with the Spielvereinigung. Binias comes from the youth team of Borussia Dortmund. With BVB, he celebrated two German championships each at U17 and U19 level.

Mastered the leap to the seniors in the second team of Arminia Bielefeld. After one and a half years in Erkenschwick, Binias moved to VSG Altglienicke in the Regionalliga Nordost – and returned in the summer of 2021. Binias collected 74 competitive games and 20 goals for Erkenschwick.

The Stimberg-Zeitung had already reported on his decision to end his career in mid-August. “Bini is an integral part of this team, not only highly accepted in the team because of his footballing skills, but also as a leader despite his comparatively young age,” coach Magnus Niemöller said there about Binias. “The successes of last season were also his successes. “
