VfL Bochum is still without a win after the 6th matchday. At home, the team of coach Thomas Letsch lost against Borussia Mönchengladbach with 1:3 (0:3).

Whistles – followed by silence. VfL Bochum fans could not believe what they had seen in the first half. No commitment, no duels, no own shot on goal. Instead, three goals against. In the end, coach Thomas Letsch’s team lost 1:3 to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The game started strangely. No entrance music, but an announcement by the stadium announcer. The visiting fans had hung a fence flag over a security gate and refused to put it up for minutes.

At 3:39 p.m., referee Felix Brych blew the whistle. The guests seemed to have coped better with the unusual waiting time. Franck Honorat (2nd) and Luca Netz (3rd) had good chances directly.

Bitterly for Bochum, Matus Bero had to be substituted after only four minutes, teammate Bernardo had fallen into his knee. Christopher Antwi-Adjei came on for him. From a sporting point of view, the game continued to go in only one direction.

Shots by Alassane Plea went just past the post (10th) or hit the crossbar (18th), and Honorat also missed by a few centimeters (23rd). The VfL literally begged for a goal against and then initiated it themselves.

Erhan Masovic made a simple mistake in the forward movement, the back line was disorganized – Florian Neuhaus thanked him and shot in from the edge of the penalty area (27.). The world was reversed in the Ruhrstadion: Gladbach played better without support than Bochum with the Ostkurve behind them. Because the guest fans had stopped the support.

In front of the Bochum supporters, a corner was then extended, forgotten at the second post Plea, who headed in (37th). Bochum tried to save themselves into the half, but this also did not succeed. Again an unnecessary loss of the ball, Gladbach countered and Plea was again not tackled decisively – 0:3 (45.).

VfL coach Letsch made three changes at halftime and switched to a four-man back line. However, the defense did not become more stable. Bochum continued to invite Gladbach to stroll toward the goal and was lucky not to concede the next goal when it had a triple chance (50th).

At least Bochum got better offensively. What does better mean: At least Bochum made an offensive appearance at all. Substitutes Philipp Förster and Lukas Daschner were both blocked on their first attempts, and Philipp Hofmann’s header went over the top (54th).

Gladbach left the ball to the hosts, lurked on the counterattack, but was negligent in missing them. In a direct counterattack, Daschner put the ball through to Anthony Losilla and the captain scored to tie the game (68th).

Immediately, the Ruhrstadion was there. And Bochum created opportunities every minute. Daschner’s shot was cleared on the line (70th), Antwi-Adjei (71st), substitute Goncalo Paciencia (72nd) and Masovic (78th) aimed too high.

With this, VfL seemed to have spent their powder for the afternoon. Antwi-Adjei (85th) failed again to keeper Moritz Nicolas, then the game just trundled out. Some fans left the Ruhrstadion before the six-minute injury time.

They missed two interventions by the video referee. He did not intervene in a supposed handball penalty for Bochum, and he took back the supposed 2:3 by Losilla. Thus, VfL Bochum remains without a win in the Bundesliga after Matchday 6.
