Duel of the ex-Esseners – Neidhart defeats his former captain

In the Regionalliga Südwest the English week was rung in on Tuesday. Kickers Offenbach returned to the track of success.

Soccer is also played on public holidays – for example in the Regionalliga Südwest. Five games were played there on Tuesday afternoon, plus the duel between the second team of Mainz 05 and FSV Frankfurt at 7 p.m. awaits the Regionalliga fans.

In the afternoon, the focus will be on the match between struggling promotion contenders Kickers Offenbach and SGV Freiberg, who have collected an impressive 19 points from their previous seven games. Offenbach, however, managed to end Freiberg’s run of success and won 2-0 (1-0).

The Kickers showed a strong reaction to the disappointing 1-2 defeat at Astoria Walldorf and were dominant from the start. Captain Ronny Marcos scored with a header in the 38th minute for a well-deserved lead. The home side remained in control after the break and were rewarded when Dimitrij Nazarov scored the decisive 2:0 (67th). After that, nothing more happened and the OFC scored their fourth win of the season.

This duel also saw the reunion of two former Essen players. Christian Neidhart, head coach of Offenbach and ex-coach of Rot-Weiss Essen, met his former captain Marco Kehl-Goméz, who is now also captain at Freiberg.

The two worked together at RWE in the 2020/21 season and Kehl-Goméz played 45 competitive games under Neidhart (ten goals, seven assists). In Offenbach, the 31-year-old midfielder was in the starting eleven and saw a yellow card in the 35th minute – after a brief scuffle.

Better than Kehl-Goméz things went for another former RWE player, namely: Felix Weber. The central defender also played under Neidhart in Essen, but did not get beyond the role of reservist. He now plays for FC 08 Homburg and set his team on the road to victory with his opening goal (20th) at TSG Balingen. In the end, Homburg won 3:0.

VfB Stuttgart II is the new leader of the Regionalliga Südwest. The Bundesliga club’s reserve team celebrated a 5-1 win at Hessen Kassel and moved up to first place.

However, Stuttgarter Kickers could move past again with a three-goal win over Schott Mainz (October 04). Otherwise, TSV Steinbach defeated Bahlinger SC 2-0 and VfR Aalen beat SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz by the same score.
