Setback for goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann

On Tuesday, goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann returned to FC Schalke 04 team training after an injury layoff. The following day he had to take a break again.

Goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann is still waiting for his first start of the season at FC Schalke 04. First, the goalkeeper lost his regular place in the preparation to Marius Müller due to an injury. Then Müller got injured – and Fährmann had to miss out due to Achilles tendon problems.

After his return to team training on Tuesday, the 35-year-old appeared to be fit again and thus an option for the home match against Hertha BSC on Sunday (1:30 p.m.). But on Wednesday, the setback followed: Fährmann was again absent from training. According to the club, this was a precautionary measure.

Who will be in goal against Hertha is still open. But the likelihood that Fährmann will make his season debut against the Berliners has now probably dropped again.

Instead, Michael Langer is a possible replacement for Müller. The 38-year-old veteran, who has been between the posts for the past two and a half games, trained alongside three talents on Wednesday. In addition to Justin Heekeren and Justin Treichel, a third goalkeeper from the U23 squad, Julius Paris, was allowed to make an appearance. The 22-year-old came to Gelsenkirchen in the summer from regional league club SV Straelen.

Good for Schalke: unlike Fährmann, there was no setback for Simon Terodde. The goal scorer had participated in team training for the first time in several weeks after his calf problems on Tuesday, while ex-captain Danny Latza continued to work individually.

After the weak start to the season and most recently two defeats in a row, the pressure on the Schalkers has increased once again ahead of the home match against Hertha BSC. If the team is winless again in the clash with the relegated team, it could drop to a direct relegation spot. S04 currently occupies relegation spot 16, with Berlin two points and four places above them
