No gold again – Essen goes down at Unterhaching

Rot-Weiss Essen had to travel to SpVgg Unterhaching on the ninth matchday of the 3rd division. The trip was not worth it at 0:4 (0:2).

Rot-Weiss Essen wanted to make the 3:1 home win against leaders Dynamo Dresden at SpVgg Unterhaching golden in the 3rd league. The venture went completely wrong on Wednesday evening, although the club made everything possible for a pleasant journey and it went by plane to Munich.

In the 0:4 (0:2) did not help, RWE was again defeated away from home, the performance was largely reminiscent of the defeat in the last game away from home, the 1:2 at SSV Ulm 1846.

Before the game, there were two changes in the starting eleven at RWE. Coach Christoph Dabrowski brought on Andreas Wiegel and Lucas Brumme for Eric Voufack and Sascha Voelcke. Isaiah Young was back in the squad, while Björn Rother dropped out with a calf injury.

The two changes did not do the game any good, with few of the Essen players finding their form. Especially the offense hardly took place in the first 45 minutes. Only Marvin Obuz had a great opportunity, but he shot into the arms of René Vollath after receiving a pass from Voufack.

At that point, however, it should have been 1-0 to the hosts, but Felix Götze and Jakob Golz combined to prevent a four-goal chance from Unterhaching.

Nevertheless, it rang twice in the box of RWE. Both times it was Mathias Fetsch who scored with his head. First after a corner, then in injury time of the first half after a long ball. Both times, the Essen defense was far too far away from the attacker.

With the burden of 0:2, the second 45 minutes began. Dabrowski made two changes, bringing on Young and Brumme, who immediately provided momentum. As in Ulm, after the 0:2 RWE woke up. But after 57 minutes it was all over.

Brumme lost the ball as the last man to Sebastian Maier, who served Fetsch, who scored into the empty net – his third goal of the game and that also meant the decision. RWE did not give up and had opportunities, but some of them were miserably missed, for example by Leonardo Vonic, who failed to score freely in front of Vollath.

Who did better? Fetsch, of course, who scored for the fourth time in the 89th minute – the 4:0 was then the final score. After the defeat, RWE slipped to 13th place. The next match for Essen is against SC Verl on Saturday (October 7, 2 p.m.), while Unterhaching plays at MSV Duisburg at the same time.
