In Meppen, MSV goalkeeper Vincent Müller caused a sensation with his long-range goal. But the newcomer also impressed his coach Torsten Ziegner in other ways.
Since his goal on Sunday, MSV goalkeeper Vincent Müller has been the topic of conversation in football Germany, and his goal against SV Meppen will be featured in many annual reviews. But it is not only because of his goal that it is a really good start to the season for the MSV Duisburg goalkeeper.
“It is quite noticeable that he is very stable despite his young age of 21,” MSV coach Torsten Ziegner said at the press conference after the win in Meppen, impressed by the goalkeeper, who moved back to the 3. Liga from PSV Eindhoven in the summer after two years in the Netherlands. “I’m sure it’s also a special feeling for him, although for me it’s much more important that we won the game,” Ziegner reflected on his number one’s goal.
Born in Cologne, Müller had joined the youth team of 1. FC Köln at an early age and had played for all youth teams up to the U19 level. A move to Würzburger Kickers followed, where he captured the goalkeeper position on matchday 11 and remained the number 1 from then on before heading to the Netherlands. In Eindhoven he only recorded appearances in the reserves, then in July he returned to Germany in the 3rd division – and to the Ruhr area.
“I don’t think Vincent sees himself only in the 3rd division “
The goalkeeper has also played his part in Duisburg’s good start to the season, as Ziegner described: “Vincent only makes a few lapses. It’s great what kind of calm he gives our defence from the back overall.” MSV’s defence is in a good position at the start of the season, with Müller only having to make four saves. In the last three games, the Zebras conceded only one goal.
“But he has to stay on the ground and meticulously continue to work on himself. I believe that Vincent doesn’t only see himself in the 3rd Division. He will still have to stabilise and improve certain things there,” Ziegner takes the young goalkeeper to task. “We are very pleased with him and will keep our eye on the ball.
