Rot-Weiss Essen have mastered the compulsory task of the round of 16 in the Lower Rhine Cup and won 4:0 (2:0) at SV SV Straelen.
KFC Uerdingen, 1. FC Bocholt, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, SSVg Velbert, Sportfreunde Hamborn, Sportfreunde Baumberg, Ratingen 04/19 and Rot-Weiss Essen: The 2023/2024 Niederrheinpokal quarter-final field is set.
Defending champions Essen were the last team to book their place in the last eight. On Tuesday evening, RWE won confidently 4:0 (2:0) at Oberliga club SV Straelen.
RWE attacked with the confidence of three consecutive victories and made their presence felt after just four minutes. But a ball from Moussa Doumbouya was just blocked by a Straelen defender. Some RWE fans already had the goal cry on their lips.
The hosts then came out of nowhere: Felix Wienand played the ball into the feet of Markus Müller (10), who suddenly found himself in front of the Essen keeper, but Wienand was able to make up for his mistake with a brilliant save.
SV Straelen acted courageously and didn’t concede much – until shortly before half-time. First Ron Berlinski (37′) took advantage of a Straelen mistake in defense and then Torben Müsel (40′) sank a free kick into the net.
After the restart, substitute Marvin Obuz set up his team-mate Nils Kaiser, who slotted home to make it 3:0 (47′) for RWE. That was also the early decision. Doumbouya (88) made it 4:0 in front of around 1200 fans at Römerstraße.
Rot-Weiss Essen saved their strength and advanced to the Lower Rhine Cup quarter-finals with ease.
