83-time second division striker makes for good Vincent Wagner start

Vincent Wagner, long-time player and youth coach of Rot-Weiss Essen, has made a positive start as U23 coach of TSG Hoffenheim. Also thanks to an ex-professional.

Vincent Wagner, an extremely popular contemporary among the fans of Rot-Weiss Essen, has been working in the Kraichgau since 1 July 2022. At TSG Hoffenheim, the 36-year-old is the coach of the U23 regional league team, which plays in the southwest division.

Wagner and his team have made a positive start to the 2022/2023 season. After three games, the ex-Essener can look back on six points. A 2:0 win against Hessen Kassel, a 1:4 defeat at Kickers Offenbach and a 5:4 win over FC Astoria Walldorf are the results Hoffenheim II has achieved so far under coach Wagner.

The fact that his team can boast six points and already eight goals after three matches is also thanks to a veteran in TSG’s U23 team. Namely: Nick Proschwitz.

The 35-year-old striker spices up the average age of 20.2 years – TSG Hoffenheim is the youngest team in the Regionalliga Südwest – a little. Proschwitz, an 83-time Second Division player, proved how important he is for Wagner and his charges in the first three matches. Proschwitz’s record: three games, three goals.

Most recently, Proschwitz scored a brace in the 5:4 win over Walldorf and thus also ensured a successful start to the season for coach Vincent Wagner.

Fesenmeyer has not made much of an appearance yet

Abdul Fesenmeyer, KFC Uerdingen’s top scorer last season, who moved to Hoffenheim, has not yet made the desired impact for TSG’s U23s. Two games totalling 121 minutes of play are noted in Fesenmeyer’s performance data. While he played 63 minutes against Kassel and 58 minutes in Offenbach, he did not play against Walldorf. As a 20-year-old attacker, he can certainly learn a thing or two from the veteran Proschwitz.
