The quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Lower Rhine Cup were drawn on Wednesday. Draw master Dietmar Schacht provided a laugh.
The final draw for this season’s Lower Rhine Cup is now complete. Ex-professional Dietmar Schacht acted as the lottery fairy on Wednesday and drew some interesting matches. For the first time, the draw was made from a single pot, with the lower-ranked teams having the right to play at home.
First of all: Rot-Weiss Essen and Rot-Weiss Oberhausen can once again only meet in the final. Last year, RWE beat RWO 2:0 in the final in front of 19,000 spectators thanks to goals from Simon Engelmann and Oguzhan Kefkir.
The quarter-finals and semi-finals were drawn on Wednesday. RWE and RWO will definitely avoid each other until the final.
In the quarter-finals, RWO will face Oberliga side Hamborn 07, while RWE will travel to Oberliga side KFC Uerdingen, who have already knocked MSV Duisburg out of the competition.
The matches will be played until the end of March, when the semi-finals are already scheduled. Schacht, who talked about his two great loves, MSV Duisburg and Schalke 04, in the run-up to the tournament, believes that he has drawn some exciting pairings.

He ended the draw with a joke that brought laughter to the Wedau Sports School. Alluding to the spat between Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel and TV pundits Dietmar Hamann and Lothar Matthäus, he bid farewell with the words: “I hope Dietmar Hamann and Lothar Matthäus are also happy with the draw.”
