“What can I say? I just have to shoot more accurately next time.” In hindsight, the Bochum captain could laugh about the fact that the ball only crashed against the left post after his volley. In the end, VfL got their first home win of the season even without a Losilla dream goal.

The difference to previous games: The chances that presented themselves were taken. “We’ve rarely scored three goals, but maybe that will give us the confidence to be dangerous in attack again in the next few games.”

Together with Osterhage, whose form has been on a steep upward curve for weeks, and Kevin Stöger, the Bochum side stole the thunder from the visitors in the center for long stretches. “We are players who are aggressive and bring a lot of intensity onto the pitch. We wanted to win this battle in the middle and I think that was a key in this game.”

We actually had our opponents under control, attacked high up the pitch, won the ball well and switched the game around.”

In the second 45 minutes, the fear of once again squandering a lead in the Ruhrstadion also played a part. “We’re naturally focused on the game in moments like that, but I think that’s unconsciously in our heads. Then we’re suddenly too defensive and stand deeper than usual.”
