78 games and 21 goals for MSV Duisburg – this striker is calling it a day

As recently as October, this striker said he wasn’t thinking about ending his career just yet. Two months later, it’s all over.

“It’s not that far yet. I just look from day to day. I don’t want to look that far into the future,” Aziz Bouhaddouz told Forecasting on October 19, 2023 when asked when he would end his career.

Less than two months later, it’s all over. The 36-year-old striker and 2018 World Cup participant is ending his career. This was announced by his current club FSV Frankfurt.

A press release from the south-west regional league club states: “Offensive player Aziz Bouhaddouz has asked FSV Frankfurt to terminate his existing contract with effect from December 31, 2023. The 36-year-old striker would like to end his soccer career at the beginning of next year, change careers and has therefore approached FSV Frankfurt with the request to terminate his contract. The club complied with this request.”

Bouhaddouz’s journey began and ends at FSV Frankfurt

Bouhaddouz only arrived in Frankfurt last summer on a free transfer from third division club MSV Duisburg. He enjoyed his youth soccer education at the traditional club

In 2006, he made the leap from junior to senior football at FSV Frankfurt, and the German-Moroccan laced up his boots for the Black & Blue’s first team for a further three years before moving to FC Erzgebirge Aue.

Other clubs the striker has played for include SV Wehen Wiesbaden, Viktoria Köln, SV Sandhausen, Bayer Leverkusen, FC St. Pauli and MSV Duisburg. Bouhaddouz played 78 games for MSV, in which he scored 21 goals and contributed 15 assists.

Bouhaddouz has made over 280 second and third division appearances in his career, in which he has scored well over 60 goals and assisted over 20 goals. As a player for the Moroccan national team, Aziz Bouhaddouz has made 17 appearances, scoring three goals and assisting one goal. In the current season, Bouhaddouz has appeared in a total of 16 competitive matches, scoring one goal and assisting two goals.
