“Five defeats are simply too many”

Tues Erndtebrück are the fall champions in Westfalenliga 2, but the relegated Oberliga team can’t buy much from that. The top is too close together for that.

TuS Erndtebrück was relegated from the Oberliga Westfalen in the summer. Just six months later, it looks as though their stay in Westfalenliga 2 will end after just one season. The team from Erndtebrück could well be promoted again – if it weren’t for the other teams who are also at the top of the table.

There are only three points between first and sixth place. No world, so the title of fall champion, which TuS Erndtebrück can put in its imaginary display case, is worth nothing. But those responsible know that too.

Erndtebrück coach Michael Müller on…

The first half of the league season: “We’re already satisfied, especially after the major upheaval in the summer. I think we now have the second-youngest team in the league. We wanted to play a good role and be up there at the top. The team’s character is good and we still have room for improvement. But five defeats are simply too many. The fact that we had three defeats in a row is something you have to concede to such a young team and we’ve learned from that. But on the whole, we’re satisfied with the first half of the season.”

What was your best moment? “That was the 5:0 win in Obercastrop. In the first half, we were still at eye level, then we did very well in the second half. But also the 2:1 against Hombruch, where we turned the game around.”

What was your worst moment? “Nothing directly. But the three defeats in a row were very bitter.”

The goals for 2024: “We want to continue to play a good role and pick up more points than in the first half of the season. There’s still room for improvement. We have a team for the future. Promotion is not yet an issue at the club. That’s still a long way off. The league is also so tight at the top. “
