A lesson for ex-Schalke striker

Stefan Leitl, coach of second division team Hannover 96, felt vindicated after the 4:0 in Magdeburg. He put five “stars” on the bench and the team won.

In Hannover 96’s furious 4:0 win at 1. FC Magdeburg, H96 coach Stefan Leitl put five men on the bench – Louis Schaub (27), Max Besuschkow (25), Sebastian Kerk (28), Cedric Teuchert (25) and Jannik Dehm (26) – who have the right to be in the starting eleven. This includes ex-Schalke striker Teuchert.

“There are not eleven players with me and we will do everything to ensure that these eleven play. There is no such thing,” Leitl stressed to Bild. He added: “If someone is not at 100 per cent, then he has to stay out. Then the next one comes in. “

Teuchert ended up on the bench after two starting games in Magdeburg, scored as a wild card for 4:0. Actually, he is playing a decent season with five appearances, two goals and one assist. But now Leitl gave him a lesson. The former S04 attacker will now know that he has to give everything during the week in order to be in the starting eleven at the weekend.

Leitl in the “Bild”: “We want to win games and not cautiously get everyone there so that they can play on Saturday. We can only be successful if we also give the players confidence across the board – and they get playing minutes and time. That’s the only way a team can develop. That’s my idea of team sport.”

Hannover have two wins and a draw after five games in the 2. Bundesliga. Two other players have been lost. On Sunday, Greuther Fürth are guests in the capital of Lower Saxony.
