Rot-Weiss Essen has won the dress rehearsal before theNext goal festival – over 1000 fans see eight goals against Zwickau

Rot-Weiss Essen have won their dress rehearsal ahead of the rest of the 3rd division. FSV Zwickau were defeated at Hafenstraße.

4:4 in the test match against Bundesliga side 1. FC Köln and a 5:3 win in the dress rehearsal against north-east regional league side FSV Zwickau: Rot-Weiss Essen are in good shape, as they were before the winter break, and the first point match of 2024 can come. On Friday (January 19, 7 p.m., live ticker), the team will travel to FC Erzgebirge Aue.

And they can build on their performance against Zwickau in the Erzgebirge. Coach Christoph Dabrowski’s charges looked good, especially in the first half.

Eric Voufack (5), Isaiah Young (34) and Cedric Harenbrock (45) scored the goals in the first 45 minutes. Leonardo Vonic, who shone as the assist provider, and the eye-catching Harenbrock were particularly impressive. The score could have been higher at half-time.

The visitors got off to the better start in the second half. Kilian Senkbeil (50′) and Maximilian Sonmitz (51′) had a great double chance straight away, but Felix Wienand was on hand to make a strong save. Wienand and Felix Götze replaced Jakob Golz and Jose-Enrique Rios Alonso from the 46th minute onwards.

After the many changes, the game was no longer as fluid in the second half. Even before the many changes, Lucas Albert (61) made it 2:3 and shortly after the substitutions, RWE were back in it again: in the person of Götze (64) – 4:2.

Moussa Doumbouya (69) should have made it 5:2, but after some fine preparatory work, the RWE striker struck the ball against the crossbar from five meters. Maximilian Somnitz (85′) from the penalty spot and Ron Berlinski (88′) rounded off the scoring in the next test match involving the red and whites.

Missing against Zwickau were: Fabian Rüth, Aaron Manu (both back from training), Björn Rother (muscular problems), Sandro Plechaty (torn inner ligament) and Ekin Celebi (shoulder injury). Lucas Brumme was also rested. At least the latter should be back in the starting line-up on Friday in Aue.
