Mehmet Can Aydin – Former Schalke player Kaan Ayhan makes for a bitter evening

Mehmet Can Aydin experienced a bitter evening in the Süper Lig. For his club Trabzonspor, but also personally. Former Schalke player Kaan Ayhan played a major role in this.

Mehmet Can Aydin experienced a pitch-black Sunday in the Turkish Süper Lig. The right-back, who is on loan to Trabzonspor from FC Schalke 04, and his team were put to the sword in their home match against Galatasaray Istanbul in the evening. The result was 5:1 for the second-placed team against the 2022 Turkish champions – a bitter defeat for the Black Sea club, who are currently in third place.

And Aydin, for whom Trabzonspor has an option to buy at the end of the season, played an unfortunate role. He initially had to sit on the substitutes’ bench. Although his rival Jens Stryger Larsen terminated his contract with the Bordeaux Blues this week and left the club, the 21-year-old did not play.

Instead, Hüseyin Türkmen played in the back four on the far right. A player who has made virtually no appearances for Trabzonspor so far this season, even after coming back from injury at the end of November.

Aydin then came on for Rayyan Baniya in the second half with the score at 0:1. However, the Würselen native was unable to prevent the dismantling of Gala’s gala performance. On the contrary: the Knappenschmiede graduate experienced a pitch-black moment before the 0:3.

That’s because he was turned in by former Schalke player Kaan Ayhan of all people. Ayhan, himself a defender, was played in on the left wing and caught Aydin out with a simple body trick. The brother of S04 Under-19 player Mertcan Ayhan took the ball from left to right in the 64th minute and turned the ball past Aydin into the goal. Aydin did not look good.

The former Elgert pupil is on loan to Turkey until the end of the season. There is also a lot at stake for him. If Trabzonspor take up the option to buy him for 1.4 million euros, a new two-year contract will automatically be activated for Aydin. His salary would more than double from the current 245,000 euros to 550,000 euros. Otherwise, he would first return to FC Schalke 04, where he still has a contract until the summer of 2025
