Der Sportclub Verl lost its two best players in this winter transfer window and still managed to hold the league leaders to a draw. A win would have been deserved.

Oliver Batista Meier (returned to Dynamo Dresden) and Mael Corboz, the captain moved to Arminia Bielefeld, left SC Verl in the winter. In this respect, it was a bitter winter transfer period for the East Westphalians.

And yet: Verl always manage to pick themselves up and defy the setbacks in terms of personnel in the form of departures in every transfer window. This was also the case last weekend in the 1:1 draw against SSV Jahn Regensburg. The visitors from North Rhine-Westphalia could even have won against the league leaders.

In it, is also a good keyword: Maximilian Wolfram (80th) had actually put the guests from Verl in the lead. According to the referee, SSV keeper Alexander Weidinger should have cleared the ball off the line. But that was not the case. Even before watching the TV pictures, the Verl striker was certain on “Magenta Sport”: “I don’t think it’s just my feeling. I don’t need to say any more. I know he didn’t do it on purpose. But we were robbed of a win.”

And every further replay clearly showed that the ball was fully in – actually 2:1 for Verl. The guests’ anger was all the greater after studying the images.

“I only got angry when I was informed from behind that it was half a meter. Then I rightly picked up my second yellow card, which was not undeserved. We all make mistakes, but you’re actually in the best possible position. It’s not a counter-attack or anything like that, where I have a different angle. You should judge that better, but that also happens,” said Alexander Ende.

Verl’s coach and his charges already have the opportunity to score goals again on Tuesday (23 January, 7 p.m.) against 1. FC Saarbrücken, which will then also be recognized
