Boris Schommers – “That gives us the courage to do it collectively”

MSV Duisburg showed morale in Ulm. But the one point from the late 2:2 is not enough in the relegation battle. That’s what Boris Schommers and last-minute goalscorer Robin Müller say.

The fact that this was not enough to put the competition under pressure was also evident when the players thanked their 450 supporters for their support.

The defensive work at set-pieces remains one of the biggest problems this season. After going 2-0 down with Ulm’s first successful action in the second half, everything pointed to a third defeat in the third game of the new year. The Ulm fans, who have a friendship with Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, could already be heard chanting “We’re going up and you’re going down”.

However, MSV continued to push forward after Tim Köther’s fortunate goal and the late equalizer by joker Robin Müller in the second minute of stoppage time, but in the end it was no longer enough to secure the all-important three points. “It feels great and gives us hope for the next few games,” said goalscorer Müller on Magenta Sport.

You could see that the team is alive and we still believe in it. That gives us the courage to make it as a collective.

His coach Boris Schommers noted that his attacker showed the conviction in the decisive scene that he had lacked when he had a good chance against Halle.

“Of course the point is lucky. But we’ve had so much bad luck on our side and are glad that we were rewarded for our hard work. We didn’t defend aggressively at the start. Ulm didn’t close the bag after going 2:1 up and we tried everything despite the setbacks,” analyzed the coach.

Even though they are still seven points adrift of safety, the coach remained optimistic. “The point is worth a lot. You could see that the team is alive and we still believe in it. That gives us the courage to do it collectively.”

The league leaders SSV Jahn Regensburg visit the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena in a week’s time on Sunday. In order to pick up the all-important three points there, it probably won’t work without the necessary portion of luck
