Rot-Weiß Oberhausen were held to a goalless draw at Borussia Mönchengladbach in the catch-up match. Too little for RWO’s ambitions.

At the fourth attempt, the match between Borussia Mönchengladbach II and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen was finally successful. In the end, no goals were scored.

The game began with a shock moment: after just three minutes of play, the Grenzlandstadion fell silent. Julian Korb came to a standstill in the center circle after a tackle. The former professional appeared to have suffered a head injury. Fortunately, Korb got up again – but a substitution was unavoidable. Noah Andreas replaced the 31-year-old Korb.

Unbelievable, but true: Just a few minutes later, in the 10th minute, Mika Schroers had to come off due to injury – Cagatay Kader replaced the attacker.

What the two teams offered from then on in the first half was soccer lean fare. There were hardly any goals – and when there were, they clearly missed their targets. The teams went into half-time with the score level.

And the second half certainly got off to a promising start: Jacob Italiano (49) was allowed to run into the RWO penalty area unchallenged and hit a low shot from around 16 meters, the ball rolling just a few centimeters past the right goalpost, goalkeeper Robin Benz would not have been able to get to the corner in time. The best chance of the game so far belonged to Gladbach.

RWO finally became dangerous: Christian März (59) tried from distance, his shot was deflected and just missed the goal – there was not much missing.

RWO pressed in the final phase with their superior numbers – Tony Reitz saw yellow – and also had some good chances. Gladbach goalkeeper Maximilian Brüll saved brilliantly in the 85th minute – against Michel Niemeyer – and in the 87th minute – against Moritz Stoppelkamp – and ultimately kept the score at 0-0 for the Borussia youngsters. Not enough for Oberhausen. Rot-Weiß wanted to move up the table with two wins in the catch-up games – so it will be difficult.
