Preußen Münster turned the game around at Waldhof Mannheim – but still had to settle for a point after a dream goal.

After the emotional victory against Rot-Weiss Essen (2:1), Preußen Münster wanted to add to their tally in the 3rd division at Waldhof Mannheim. But the endeavor only worked to a limited extent. After 90 minutes, the score was 2:2 (0:1).

As a result, Mannheim were unable to exert any real pressure on MSV Duisburg in the form of a three-pointer ahead of the Zebra home game against Jahn Regensburg at 7:30pm.

Before the game, Münster coach Sascha Hildmann spoke of a Mannheim miracle bag, after they had only changed their coach a few days ago and signed several new players at the last minute.

A few weeks earlier, Terrence Boyd had already come on and made the most of the first real chance of the game after just eleven minutes – much to the delight of new coach Marco Antwerpen, who had certainly imagined this start. However, the 1-0 lead only lasted 13 minutes, as Niko Koulis then scored to make it 1-1. The game remained tied until the break.

Mannheim had the first two big opportunities after the break. But first, winter signing Kevin Goden (from 1. FC Düren) failed to beat SCP keeper Maximilian Schulze-Niehues, then Boyd shot over the goal from four meters. The home side were now pressing and missed their next high-caliber chance shortly after the double. Boyd was completely free to head home from six meters, but his shot was too low (54′).

That was also the wake-up call for Münster, who had their good scenes in the aftermath. However, substitute Gerrit Wegkamp missed twice from promising positions to make it 2:1 for the visitors.

Which then came after all. First, substitute Shaibou Oubeyapwa hammered the ball against the crossbar. After the subsequent cross, Wegkamp headed in to give Münster the lead. But Mannheim had an answer. And what an answer it was. Marcel Seegert, who had just come on as a substitute, received the ball 30 meters from goal – and his shot hit the left corner of the net – 2:2. The result stood, and Münster can certainly live with the point better than the Mannheim team.

Mannheim continue their campaign on Saturday (February 10, 2 p.m.) at SSV Ulm. Preußen Münster play at home against SV Sandhausen at the same time.
