In office since 2011 – Essen coach extends his contract

District league club SC Werden-Heidhausen is setting the course for the future. Coach Danny Konietzko remains with the club.

The era of Danny Konietzko at SC Werden-Heidhausen continues. The long-serving coach has extended his contract by a further year and will remain at the helm “im Löwental” for the 2024/25 season.

Konietzko, who was previously active as a player in Werden, has been the main coach of the Essen district league club since 2011. The 48-year-old will be entering his 14th season as Werden coach this summer.

“It was clear to us that we wanted to continue working with Danny. He’s a Werdener through and through, loves detail and continues to show maximum commitment even after so many years. We are staying on our path and will continue this very trusting and successful collaboration beyond the current season,” explained CEO Christoph Steinmetz.

Konietzko was delighted with the next contract extension. The former Rot-Weiss Essen youth coach emphasized:

Facing these challenges continues to drive me as a coach, even after this long period in office. That is why I have decided to extend my contract. At the same time, we want to expand the coaching team.

“Every year brings with it different conditions and changing circumstances. At the same time, SCWH is my club, I am a Werdener through and through and I am always ambitious that we continue to develop as a club. Facing these challenges is what drives me as a coach, even after this long period in office. That is why I have decided to extend my contract. At the same time, we want to expand the coaching team. I’m on the lookout for that.”

After 18 games, SC Werden-Heidhausen are securely in mid-table in district league group six. They are already 14 points clear of the first relegation spot. This means that the club from the south of Essen can also plan for the district league next year – with Danny Konietzko
