FC Bayern has presented a new coach for its U19s. He has already left his mark at Borussia Dortmund.

René Maric was part of Marco Rose’s coaching team at Borussia Dortmund, but now the 31-year-old is taking over as head coach for the first time – at FC Bayern. As the German record champions announced on Monday evening, Maric will be on the sidelines of the Munich U19s in future. There he will take over from Michael Hartmann, who has been released.

This will be Maric’s first time working as a full-time coach at FCB. The Austrian made the leap into the professional game under Marco Rose. Maric worked with the current RB Leipzig coach at RB Salzburg, moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach with him and then on to Dortmund in the summer of 2021. At BVB, his responsibilities included analyzing opponents and following up on matches.

However, when Borussia and Rose parted ways after just one season, Maric’s time in Dortmund also came to an end. The pro license holder moved to England, where he spent six months as assistant to Jesse Marsch at Leeds United. After that, Maric was rumored to be linked with head coaching engagements, including at Rapid Vienna.

However, he decided to remain in the background. In November, Maric joined FC Bayern as a development coach. A few weeks later, he made the switch to the front line – albeit “only” with FC Bayern’s U19s. Maric already knows the team “very well thanks to his good and intensive work on campus”, said campus manager Halil Altintop.

Maric will celebrate his debut on Wednesday. Bayern will face FC Basel in the Youth League play-offs. “I was surprised by this development today,” said Maric on Monday evening, “but I’m really looking forward to working with the team and this exciting task. Together with my coaching team, I will do everything I can to support the boys and achieve the club’s goals. “
