This is what the FC Schalke U23 coach said

The U23 of FC Schalke 04 suffered a 1:2 defeat against 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn on matchday 6 of the Regionalliga West and has now been waiting for a win for four games.

Even with four professional supports, the U23 of FC Schalke 04 did not manage a win against promoted 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn, who thanks to the fifth win in the sixth match greet from the top of the table.

The S04, on the other hand, has been waiting for a win for four games now, although Schalke coach Jakob Fimpel’s team had the chances: “Brutal effectiveness on one side and unfortunately no effectiveness on our side. We had enough opportunities to score goals. We started really well in the first half and actually had to take the lead. Also, from my point of view, we had the whole game well under control and did a top job defensively.”

But on the offensive, we lacked the final punch and also the necessary luck. “We had a super intensity over the entire 90 minutes. However, we just lacked that little bit forward to score the goals. Certainly, it was not the better team that won, but the more effective one. Accordingly, the result is what hurts. But not the game itself,” Fimpel emphasised.

We have already seen what is possible with the boys

Even a strong Schalker final offensive did not bring the hoped-for result: “Our final phase was good again. We managed to start the last quarter of an hour with a power play. That’s why it hurts all the more when you’re not rewarded for all the effort. I just feel sorry for the boys.”

With Mehmet Can Aydin, Leo Greiml, Kerim Calhanoglu and Ibrahima Cissé, there were four Schalke professionals in the line-up who repeatedly showed their qualities: “We have already seen what is possible with the boys. We were really busy on the wings with Kerim and Memo,” said Fimpel, who praised all the professionals who played: “The important thing is that they put in the work. And they all did that.”

Despite the defeat, Fimpel saw an improvement in his team’s performance: “From my point of view, we have improved again this week and compared to Rödinghausen. But clearly we have to look to become more effective again.”

Next up for the Knappen is the clash against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen (03/09, 2pm). “It will be an intense game because of the brutal physicality that is there on the other side. But we’ve taken our steps, stick to ourselves and then look to score goals again,” said Fimpel confidently.
