After all, the RWE reserve team, leaders of the Kreisliga B table with no losses, did not have good experiences under the indoor roof in Essen-Stoppenberg. After surviving the qualifiers, the Lorenz team was eliminated in the intermediate round.

Two RWE II players, Dominik Milaszewski (torn muscle bundle) and Mirco Selle (broken ankle), suffered serious injuries. Milaszewski (31 goals) and Emre Kilic (40) were even the top scorers. “It wasn’t a good tournament for us. It started with the fact that our coach Stefan Lorenz had to get players interested. Initially, only four or five men signed up. And then there was the format, which I personally disliked. A district league team hardly has a chance of getting into the money pots. That’s the goal when you take part in a tournament. And, of course, the injuries to Dominik and Mirco were the inglorious encore. The hall also had no added value for us at all in terms of preparation,” says Frank Kurth, listing the negative hall events in 2024.

The RWE II project manager makes no secret of the fact that the 2025 Essen Indoor City Championship will probably take place without red and white participation. “If it’s up to me, then we won’t be taking part.
